My News Diet

In another class I am taking currently, we had to do a blog post about our news diet, which I thought would be a good way to start this blog. Since I want to be a journalist myself, reading the news is a must. I have recently started reading more news after doing this assignment for another class.

In the past few months I got really into listening to NPR One, which is just the app that is offered in order to have your local NPR station on your phone. As I mentioned in my introductory post, keeping up with the technological times is very important, especially in the world of Journalism. NPR One is an example of this. It is an example of the world of Journalism keeping pace with all of the advances of digital media.

I listened to NPR One in the mornings while I am getting ready for the day, which is a nice way to start my day because I get caught up on national and local news in small segments. It’s also nice because it is set to the Wyoming local station, so it keeps the news relevant while still offering some insight on national affairs.

Once I finish getting ready I will usually come into the living room and turn on the Today Show while I eat my breakfast. I enjoy watching the Today Show because it is a fun way to get your news. Prior to my college experience I didn’t think there was a “fun” way to get your news, but the more I watched the Today Show and shows like it, I realized it is possible. I also really enjoy watching the musical guests they bring on. It’s a nice way to start the morning!

I also use CNN, Wyoming Tribune Eagle, the Branding Iron and other blogs to keep up with more of the recent news when I’m on the go. I enjoy reading all of these outlets because it offers a variety of news and they are all reliable sources.

Again, I believe it is important to keep up with the world of Journalism and the best way to do that is to constantly check up on the news.

Hello and welcome to my blog! I wanted to take the time with my first blog post to give an idea of why I am even starting this blog.

First things first, I am very interested in the world of journalism and have actually wanted to be a journalist myself since I was about 11 years old. I am now a junior in college studying journalism at the University of Wyoming. I believe that it is important to keep up to date with any field of study, but with how important the digital world is becoming, I believe it is even more important to keep up with the profession of journalism.

In order to do this, I plan to use this blog as an outlet to do research and keep up with the fast-paced and ever-changing world of journalism. I will post about the things I find online, through researching key individuals in the field and even posting my opinions on some of the changes in the journalistic world. I am excited to take the time to really get to know what is going on in the world of my future profession, and I hope you enjoy reading it!
